Northbeam: marketing attribution and measurement

Northbeam helps ecommerce marketing teams combine advertising spend, store events and orders to understand channel contribution and make budget decisions. Teams can compare acquisition and repeat-purchase performance, inspect the ads and products behind a change, and use separate measurement methods for daily campaign decisions and longer-term budget planning.

Buying view: Northbeam is relevant when the media team needs to explain a channel total through campaigns, creatives and products. Accrual Performance supports campaign ROAS reviews; Cash Snapshot reports sales on the order date. New-customer and subscription views help separate acquisition from repeat purchases, while conversion-lag charts show why recent campaigns may still be accumulating revenue.

Northbeam features and workflows

Northbeam helps a marketing team decide where to investigate or adjust advertising spend by connecting orders, site visits and channel costs. Operators can compare new-customer acquisition with returning-customer sales, open the creatives or products behind a result, and see how different attribution models distribute revenue. Overview tracks business KPIs; detailed reports answer campaign, product and subscription questions. Built-in AI and an external AI assistant can query these figures, while Apex sends selected attribution signals back to supported ad platforms.

Northbeam use cases

A channel that closes orders can look stronger than the channel that introduced the customer. Northbeam gives the team several ways to assign revenue across those touchpoints, so an acquisition campaign and a branded-search or email campaign can be evaluated for their different roles. The resulting budget discussion can include results for first-time and returning customers, conversion delay and the specific ads or products behind the channel total.

How Northbeam works

For a campaign budget review, the operator can use Accrual Performance, which assigns revenue to the date of each contributing marketing interaction. Cash Snapshot instead assigns it to the order date and suits a weekly or monthly sales report. Comparing campaign ROAS therefore requires the same model, window and mode; conversion-lag tiles help show why a recent campaign can gain credited revenue after the initial review.

Northbeam marketing-measurement suite

The composition map groups the jobs around one set of store and advertising data. Overview and Metrics Explorer show business trends and relationships; attribution and diagnostic reports trace results to channels, ads and products. MMM supports media-allocation scenarios, and incrementality tests compare test and control groups. Apex uses a selected measurement signal to inform supported platforms’ delivery algorithms, rather than changing a budget in the reporting screen.

What each module does and its role

Daily campaign reviews use attribution and creative reports; product and subscription views show what customers bought and which campaigns brought new subscribers. MMM, incrementality and Apex support separate budget-planning, testing and signal-sharing tasks.

Northbeam AI

Northbeam AI answers account questions inside the dashboard, such as which campaigns declined week over week or how spend and revenue break down by platform. Teams can add promotion calendars, budget plans and operating guidance to Context Center so those documents are available in conversations on that dashboard. It can change the requesting user’s default attribution or accounting settings and file a confirmed support ticket, but it does not edit orders, spend or platform connections.

Northbeam MCP

Northbeam MCP lets an external assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude query dashboard figures and orders through the operator’s existing Northbeam login. An operator can compare Meta ROAS between two weeks or request a platform-level spending breakdown; anyone with multiple dashboards must identify the account to query. The connection is read-only and follows the user’s existing access, sending bounded answers to specific requests rather than synchronizing a full account in the background. The receiving AI provider’s data terms apply.

Data foundation and Overview

Overview is the team’s starting dashboard for revenue, spend, customer acquisition cost and transactions. Its data combines website activity captured by the Northbeam pixel and tagged links with backend orders and connected advertising records; backend orders also capture purchases that did not fire a web pixel. Operators can save shared KPI views and add conversion-lag charts to see how revenue arrives after the marketing interaction.

Metrics Explorer

Metrics Explorer compares how two marketing metrics move together over time, such as paid-social spend and branded-search revenue. Operators choose the metrics, dates and daily, weekly or monthly detail, then save or export the view. The relationship can identify a channel interaction worth investigating before a budget cut; the correlation itself does not establish that one metric caused the other.

Multi-Touch Attribution

Multi-Touch Attribution divides an order’s revenue across recorded marketing interactions, giving the team a common basis for comparing campaigns. Clicks-Only emphasizes acquisition: when an upper-funnel touchpoint exists, it excludes direct visits, organic search, branded paid search and email or SMS from the allocation. Last Non-Direct Touch instead credits the last non-direct visit and helps inspect closing channels; Linear distributes credit equally. The choice changes the question answered, so a low email value under Clicks-Only should not be read as evidence that email closes no orders.

Clicks + Deterministic Views

Clicks + Deterministic Views (C+DV) adds platform-confirmed ad views to the click-based customer journey. An administrator enables the required sharing, then Northbeam matches the available view data to orders; this helps inspect exposure-driven campaigns that a click-only view misses. Initial processing can take 24–48 hours and the model updates three times daily. Platform matching and privacy thresholds determine which details are available.

Creative, product and subscription analytics

Creative Analytics puts ad cards beside spend, acquisition cost and ROAS, with charts for comparing up to six ads. Product Analytics lets the operator select a SKU and follow it through platform, campaign and ad views to see which ads sell it; its CAC and ROAS indexes compare the account’s own assets, not an industry benchmark. Subscription Analytics separates first subscription orders from renewals using order tags. These views support different decisions: which creative to retest, which product an ad actually sells, and which campaigns bring new subscribers.

Media Mix Modeling+

Media Mix Modeling+ supports decisions about how to distribute a larger budget across channels over weeks or months. It models historical channel spend and business results, including factors such as promotions and seasonality, so the team can compare alternative allocations. The analysis works at channel and business level and needs sufficient history; individual ad and campaign decisions use the more detailed attribution reports.

Incrementality

Incrementality tests whether sales change when a group is withheld from advertising, with geographic comparisons available when a randomized holdout is impractical. Northbeam reports incremental return on ad spend and calibrated ROAS, which can inform the interpretation of MTA and MMM. This is useful when the team needs to decide whether a channel is creating additional sales before committing more budget; test scope and eligibility are arranged for the account.

Northbeam Apex

Apex sends Northbeam’s attributed order signals to supported advertising platforms so their algorithms can use the team’s selected measure of performance. Setup specifies new, returning or blended revenue, an attribution model and a 1-, 3- or 7-day window in Accrual mode. On Meta, enabling data sharing and selecting Custom Attribution at ad-set level are separate steps, with optimization subject to access. Changing the selected North Star signal restarts an approximately two-week calibration period; existing pixels and conversion APIs remain in use.

Northbeam pricing and purchase terms

View official pricing details

Northbeam offers a partner-agency route and three direct subscription plans. Pricing depends on the selected service and pageview volume, while the published ad-spend ranges help describe the intended customer. Every plan includes access to Northbeam AI for questions about account data and product use, plus the official MCP connection for reading dashboard data in an outside AI assistant. MCP follows existing account permissions and cannot change Northbeam data; the outside AI client may have its own subscription requirements.

Starter’s card displays $1,500 without a clear billing period, while the pricing FAQ describes a month-to-month, usage-based subscription. Professional displays $3,500 per month, but Professional and Enterprise use annual contracts with annual or semiannual billing. The order form should specify pageview allowance, refresh frequency, overage charges, services and optional measurement products. Enterprise’s card and FAQ use different ad-spend thresholds, so spend alone should not determine the plan.

Northbeam alternatives compared

The choice depends on whether the purchase is mainly for campaign attribution or also requires managed experiments, shared business reporting and forecasts that include marketplace sales. Each option below covers a different operating scope.

NorthbeamCurrent productNorthbeam combines first-party visits, orders and advertising spend to compare acquisition, campaign and product performance through multiple attribution views.

Best fitFits a media team that needs to connect daily campaign decisions with results for first-time and returning customers, conversion lag and product-level results. Clicks-Only and last-touch views answer different acquisition and closing questions; MMM and incrementality add separate budget-planning methods.

ImplementationConnect orders, pixel events, tagged links and advertising spend, then select the attribution model, window and accounting mode used for budget reviews. Built-in AI and MCP query these reports; Apex separately sends the chosen attribution signal to supported platforms.

RockerboxRockerbox combines a consolidated marketing dataset with attribution, media mix modeling and managed incrementality testing.

Best fitRockerbox is a close alternative for teams buying several measurement methods, with a defined managed testing service and exports to their warehouse or Sheets. The buying distinction is the required data delivery and testing service alongside daily attribution, rather than simply the presence of MTA or MMM, which Northbeam also offers.

ImplementationThe team connects channel and conversion data and selects the Data and Analysis products it needs. Rockerbox manages the Testing offering; channel coverage, historical inputs and deliverables should match the proposed test.

Polar AnalyticsPolar Analytics supplies ecommerce BI and multi-touch attribution on a dedicated Snowflake data platform with shared metric definitions.

Best fitPolar is relevant when the decision includes consolidating business reporting as well as replacing media attribution. Its BI includes custom reports, goal tracking, alerts and scheduled reports; incrementality is a separately selectable product with a dedicated data scientist. Northbeam’s campaign and attribution views are the closer fit when media diagnosis is the main job.

FosphaFospha uses daily media mix modeling and forecasts to measure advertising across direct-to-consumer stores and marketplaces, down to ad-level outputs.

Best fitFospha is an alternative when the budget question spans DTC, Amazon and TikTok Shop sales and needs forecasts at different investment levels. Its daily modeled ad-level outputs and saturation curves support ongoing allocation decisions using a method different from the one behind Northbeam’s touchpoint-based campaign views.

ImplementationConnect the media and sales data for the channels being measured and use the model’s forecasts to compare allocations. Fospha’s approach does not depend on installing a tracking pixel; the team still needs the relevant spend and outcome records.

Selection advice

Match the report to the budget decision

Northbeam is relevant when the media team needs to explain a channel total through campaigns, creatives and products. Accrual Performance supports campaign ROAS reviews; Cash Snapshot reports sales on the order date. New-customer and subscription views help separate acquisition from repeat purchases, while conversion-lag charts show why recent campaigns may still be accumulating revenue.

Checking the scope of incrementality and MMM

Daily ad changes, next quarter’s channel mix and the sales caused by a channel are different questions. Northbeam uses MTA for detailed campaign analysis, MMM for historical channel patterns and allocation scenarios, and incrementality for test-versus-control comparisons. The existing MTA subscription does not establish access to every method: the quoted package must name the required MMM or testing scope.

Comparing Polar when business reporting is also needed

Include Polar when the team also needs shared ecommerce metrics and business reporting. Polar provides a Snowflake data layer and BI, while Northbeam’s public plans emphasize media measurement. If considering both, confirm the data flows and metric definitions, including which reports will be used for business analysis and which will be used for media decisions.

Northbeam FAQs

Recent ROAS can change as later orders arrive, while a missing dynamic-ad preview can still have performance data. The questions below explain these reporting conditions alongside AI access and pricing.

What data must be connected for useful attribution?

Northbeam needs website touchpoints from its pixel and tagged marketing links, order records, and channel spend. Shopify orders provide backend purchases including cases where no browser purchase event fires; custom-store data requires the corresponding integration or API setup. Subscription analysis additionally needs consistent tags that distinguish the first subscription order from recurring orders.

Why does a recent campaign’s ROAS change after the week ends?

A shopper can order days after the ad interaction. In Accrual Performance, that later revenue is assigned back to the contributing interaction dates, so a recent period can gain revenue while its spend stays unchanged. Cash Snapshot puts the revenue on the order date instead. Northbeam’s conversion-lag charts help assess the delay before comparing a recent campaign with a more mature period.

Does a missing creative preview mean the ad has no performance data?

No. Some dynamic formats assemble images, headlines or products at delivery time, so the platform may not return a single static preview. Creative Analytics can still show the ad card and its available performance metrics. The view uses Accrual Performance; Cash Snapshot is not supported there.

Is Northbeam AI included, and is usage unlimited?

Northbeam AI is available on every Northbeam plan. Usage resets weekly, but the documentation does not publish a numerical allowance. A higher-usage monthly option is described as a future offering, not a current purchase. Context Center files are shared with everyone on that dashboard.

How is Northbeam’s official MCP different from its built-in AI?

Built-in AI works inside Northbeam and can update the requesting user’s default attribution or accounting settings. The official MCP connection works through an outside AI assistant and is entirely read-only. Both are available on every Northbeam plan. Third-party connectors have their own setup and permission rules.

When is C+DV useful alongside Clicks-Only?

C+DV is useful when ads on a supported platform may influence orders through views without a recorded ad click. It adds matched platform-confirmed ad views; comparing it with Clicks-Only shows how those views change the attribution. Data sharing, available matches and privacy thresholds affect the results. A question about how sales change when ads are withheld or run belongs to a separate incrementality test.

Is Northbeam Starter a confirmed $1,500 monthly subscription?

The current Starter card displays $1,500 without clearly attaching a billing period. The FAQ describes Starter as month-to-month and usage-based, but that does not establish the displayed amount as a fixed monthly rate. Confirm the amount, pageview allowance and overage terms in the quote. Professional separately displays $3,500 per month and requires an annual contract.

Miracle BrandUnited States

Northbeam is the best attribution + modeling tool we have used by far. It's the only tool we have used that allows us to get consistent data across different attribution models and windows. It allows us to understand 1st purchase vs. LTV ROAS. Their customer support is also extremely knowledgeable both technically and about the industry and has helped us do things we had no idea were possible. Highly recommend.
